As video content has become such an integral tool for social media, it is no surprise that we keep seeing the rise of online video marketing. Video marketing has gained so much ground and there’s a good reason for it: It engages and converts consumers more than any other medium – because with video, you can tell a story quickly and efficiently.
The need for video in marketing
With so many people now spending time on their mobile devices, the need for video in marketing is imperative.
For more people to share their opinions and take part in conversations via social media, video is just as vital as text. Although YouTube already has more than 1.9 billion users, another key way for brands to engage with their customers is through Facebook, Instagram and TikTok (to name a few).
Facebook has a phrase they like to use for high quality and creative marketing content on their platform — thumb-stopping moments.
With a users attention span now being 5 seconds on average; we need to use these thumb-stopping moments to fight for attention, and the easiest way to accomplish this — is with video content.
How to create great videos
When creating videos, there are three main things to consider:
1. Message
Make sure that the video content you are creating has a clear direction and story with either a strong Call To Action (if used for marketing) or a strong Brand Message (if used for organic content).
2. Length
Facebook and Instagram like to suggest keeping your videos between 5-15 seconds long. Now obviously that is very difficult to get a story across in such a short timeframe — so you need to be clever with how you repurpose your longer format video content into bite sized chunks that can be used for paid advertising. Instead of creating/or even worse paying for different videos, make sure that whatever you are creating can be shortened down into shorter videos.
3. Placement:
The last, and maybe the most important point is knowing where and how you will be using your video content digitally. Each platform and placement has different dimensions and interaction methods, so making sure that your video content can be resized is a very important thing. Below is a quick cheat sheet on different sizes you should cater for;
- Story Posts: 1080 x 1920px. Main Call To Action here is ‘Swipe up’. Max duration is 15 seconds.
- Instagram/Square Posts: 1080 x 1080px. No call to action normally as these should be used as organic video posts. Max duration is 60 seconds (only on Instagram).
- Video Ads: 1920 x 1080px. These are the same size videos you would find in video commercials, Call to Action can be custom.
How video can help your business
By having a professional video online showcasing your business, you can attract your target audience, build brand awareness, and generate additional online sales — and ultimately grow your business online and encourage social media engagement.
Online sharing
It is much easier to share your video to Facebook, YouTube, or your other social media pages now than it was in the past with TV commercials. Placement organically is free and your possible reach is a lot more than traditional media and can actually be tracked.
